In America north of Mexico are a few hundred described species of jumping spiders. The classification shown below is provisional, for the phylogeny of the family is poorly known. To help you learn to identify the jumping spiders of America north of Mexico, some good beginning books are the Levi, Levi and Zim Spiders and Their Kin, a Golden Guide, and Kaston's How to Know the Spiders. The most detailed modern key to the genera is that of Richman (1978), of which an updated version appears in Vince Roth's book on spider genera.
