Introduction

This cosmopolitan subfamily comprises about 10 tribes, 150 genera and 1500 species (Stibick, 1979; Calder, 1998). The classification is currently in a state of flux but at least the following tribes are included: Crepidominini Candèze, 1863; Ctenicerini Fleutiaux, 1936; Denticollini Reitter, 1905; Dimini Candèze, 1863; Hemicrepidiini Champion, 1894; Hypnoidini Schwarz, 1906; Hypolithini Fleutiaux, 1928; Pleonomini Stibick, 1979; Prosternini Gistel, 1856 and Senodoniini Schenkling, 1926.
