Oh my goodness! Unless you are a Tree of Life developer, you really shouldn't be here. This page is part of our beta test site, where we develop new features for the ToL, often messing up a thing or two in the process. Please visit the official version of this page, which is available here.

Taxonomic Note re Archipetalia in Neopetaliidae

John W. H. Trueman

We treat Archipetalia auriculata as belonging to the family Neopetaliidae.

This is a small family that is restricted to south-east Australia and South America. There are just nine species in the family.

Recently a number of different phylogenetic arrangements and a proliferation of taxonomic categories has been proposed for this small group. However, no compelling evidence has been presented for any of these arrangements. Pending resolution of the phylogeny we prefer to maintain the traditional taxonomic classification.
