Oh my goodness! Unless you are a Tree of Life developer, you really shouldn't be here. This page is part of our beta test site, where we develop new features for the ToL, often messing up a thing or two in the process. Please visit the official version of this page, which is available here.

Aleochara (Triochara)

Christian Maus and James S. Ashe (1947-2005)
Containing group: Aleochara

Introduction

This small monophyletic subgenus is distinguished by conspicuous morphological characteristics (see below). It includes three seashore-dwelling species from Japan, Korea and the Russian Far East.

Characteristics

Triochara is characterized by three longitudinal furrows on the pronotum which are formed by large, confluent punctures. One of these furrows is located in the pronotal midline, another one on each side of the midline. This characteristic is autapomorphic for the subgenus. Other characteristics include: head with two longitudinal subparallel furrows formed by coarse, confluent punctures, and a transverse depression in front of hind margin; pro- and mesotibiae with stout spines; pronotal hypomera visible in lateral view; mesosternum without carina; and median lobe of the aedeagus with a pair of ventral processes.

Identification Guides

This group has been revised by ASSING (1995).

Bionomics

The species live on seashores under decaying seaweed. A. (T.) nubis was found at the sandy shore of a salt lake. Hosts and development are not known.

Discussion of Phylogenetic Relationships

The phylogenetic relationships within this subgenus have not been investigated.

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
